Right on my first day of orientation, my manager told me that I already missed the golden era of pharma, which was around 10-20 years ago. The waning of blockbusters drugs is becoming a serious problem for almost all major pharmas, and it sounds like they will disappear sooner or later. After a recent merger, everyone in the company is talking about first-wave,second-wave lay off etc. and I was told by many people working in the company for 10+ years that big pharmas are not likely to rebound even in the next 10 years or so.
Before starting my graduate study, I had always been sure that I would like to have a career in the industry; but now it seems that I should really reconsider my options. Therefore, I am curious, what are people's thoughts on this? especially those from the industry? Based on what I heard, government jobs are becoming more and more popular nowadays.
I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
